Sketch / croquis

The art of capturing a human body in just a few minutes is called croquis (or kroki in swedish). It is always drawn from living nude models. Drawing a croquis strengthens the artist’s capability to observe and to express and summarize as a unit. This is needed for every artist to find his/her own personal expression in all art genres. It is therefore a basic exercise and the reason why a lot of croquis is painted in the art schools. You usually use charcoal on big (and cheap) sheets of paper. In 2015 and 2016 I organized croquis meetings for artists on our island Öland. Here I show some sketches from my collection – I usually note how many minutes the model held the position.
